Belt & Road Scholar Series
One Belt One Road (OBOR) was initiated by China’s President Xi Jinping in 2013. The term OBOR refers to ‘Silk Road Economic Belt’ and the “21st-Century Maritime Silk Road’. OBOR later is re-named as Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). It is a global infrastructure development strategy which has a significant and positive impact within Asia region as well as across other regions. In view of the above-mentioned historical milestone, China and Malaysia benefited tremendously from BRI. For the first time, Southeast Asia Research Centre for Humanities (SEARCH) worked with TARUMT to publish a compilation book that mainly focused on BRI.
This book comprises 104 articles in trilingual written by 29 scholars from 11 private and public institutions of higher learning (IHLs) across Malaysia. Of which, 52 were written in English, 27 in Mandarin and 25 in Malay. These articles were first published in local mainstream newspapers, while the articles published in this book are the updated version. This book marks another significant milestone for the Malaysia-China relationship as it is an inaugural project in Malaysia’s history by pulling together a group of scholars across Malaysia’s IHLs to produce more than 100 articles in three languages.
Besides topics relating to BRI, the articles focus on the Malaysia-China relationship surrounding the themes of globalisation and regional co-operation, finance, poverty and inequality, green initiatives and sustainable development, arts, cultural and tourism, modern agriculture, neo-urbanisation and infrastructure development, innovation and technology, human capital development, healthcare and ageing society and SME/Ecommerce.
This book provides a comprehensive discussion pertaining to the Malaysia-China relationship that serves as an excellent reference for those keen to understand the in-depth relationship between the two countries.
